How To Stick Non-woven Wallpaper With Your Own Hands

If you’ve settled on this type of wallpaper, it’s time to learn how to work with it right!

Step 1: the choice of glue

  • Do not skimp on the choice of adhesive: non-woven wallpaper is very demanding on the quality of the glue.
  • It is best to choose a model that is specifically designed for this type of wallpaper. Usually such glue is made from dry starches.
  • The glue is prepared just before starting work. The composition is soaked and mixed thoroughly. It is necessary to achieve a perfectly homogeneous mass.

Step 2: preparing the walls

If you want the wallpaper to lay flat on the walls without any problems, you need to carefully prepare the surface for gluing. Non-woven can be glued to drywall and wood, to plaster and putty and even to clean concrete and it is easy to find amazing wallpaper for walls.

The process of preparing the wall takes place in four stages:

  • Thoroughly clean everything from old wallpaper and plaster. Remains of old paint must also be removed. Especially difficult places are sanded and dedusted.
  • Next, check how flat the wall plane is. If you notice serious drops and depressions, then it is necessary to level the surface. For this, putty is applied, which, after drying, is sanded with sandpaper.
  • After the wall has dried, it must be primed. This will strengthen the base and make the wallpaper pasting more durable. For greater reliability, the primer can be done twice with an interval of four hours.
  • Mark the wall. To do this, draw a vertical line using a level meter from the corner. Some mark the entire room as a whole, making the distance between these lines equal to the width of the roll.

Step 3: Pasting Wallpaper

Let’s take a look at the pasting process step by step:

  1. Place a roll on the previously prepared clean floor. Use a tape measure to measure the height of the room. Measure strips from the roll, the length of which is equal to the height of the room plus 10 centimeters.
  2. Apply the adhesive mixture with a roller to the wall surface. The width should be slightly larger than the width of the roll – this will allow you to reliably glue the edge of the wallpaper.
  3. Install the cut-out strip of wallpaper. The sticker process takes place from top to bottom. At the same time, make sure that the edges are aligned according to the drawn markings.
  4. Smooth the surface of the glued strip to remove wrinkles and bubbles. Use a sharp knife to cut off excess material near the ceiling and floor.
  5. Stick on the next sheet. Make sure that the edges of the wallpaper are butted together and the pattern matches. This is why you cut off the strips with a small margin of 10 centimeters. Make sure that the joint is as tight as possible. Non-woven wallpaper does not change its shape when dry, so gaps between the canvases are unlikely to form.
  6. In the corners, the wallpaper strips are glued with an overlap. Use a spatula to press the wallpaper against the corner.
